Wilfred — Privacy Policy

Wilfred is a personal software project used by a single individual — its author — on their own computer.
This policy explains what Google user data Wilfred accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and whether it is shared.
Summary: Wilfred has no public service backend, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party AI processing. Google Calendar data is processed locally on the owner's own computer.
What Google data Wilfred accesses
Wilfred requests one Google permission and no others:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly
This provides read-only access to the calendars the owner can already access.
From calendar events Wilfred may read:
- event title
- start and end times
- time zone
- location, if present
- event description, if present
- organiser display name
- the owner's own attendance response
- source calendar name
- whether an event repeats
- whether an event has been cancelled
Wilfred deliberately does not require Calendar write access.
What Wilfred cannot do
Wilfred cannot:
- create calendar events
- edit calendar events
- move calendar events
- delete calendar events
- respond to invitations
- change calendar settings
- change calendar sharing
- send email or messages
No Google permission allowing those actions is requested.
How Google data is used
Calendar data is used only to show the owner their own schedule and produce local summaries and reminders.
The language model used by Wilfred runs locally on the owner's computer.
Google Calendar data is not sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or another hosted AI inference provider.
Where Google data is stored
- Calendar data is normally retrieved on demand.
- A short-lived local cache may retain retrieved event data for up to five minutes.
- Local files are restricted to the owner's operating-system account.
- The Google OAuth token is stored locally with owner-only file permissions.
- OAuth credentials and tokens are deliberately excluded from Wilfred's encrypted general backup archives.
- Wilfred has no remote application database for Calendar data.
Sharing
Wilfred does not sell, advertise against, or disclose Google Calendar data to third parties.
The network connections required for the Calendar integration are to Google's own OAuth and Calendar API endpoints.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Wilfred's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data is used only to provide the calendar functionality described above.
It is not used for advertising and is not used to train a general-purpose AI or machine-learning model.
Revoking access and deleting local data
The owner can revoke Wilfred's Google access at any time through:
https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
Revoking access prevents further Calendar retrieval.
Because Wilfred's data is stored locally, its local application data can be removed directly from the owner's computer.
Children
Wilfred is not directed at children and is used only by its adult author.
Changes
Changes to this policy will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
